In the past, Hoima was part of Bunyoro district, it was entity within the kingdom. later on, it was divided into North Bunyoro and south Bunyoro.Finally Hoima become a district in 1980.Hoima is acknowledged to boarder kibaale in the south, kiboga in the East, masindi in the north-east as well as Lake Albert in the west forming a boarder with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Ithas a population of about 349.204 people, where by 173.004 are female and 176.200 are male. The main language spoken is Runyoro and the main activity is agriculture with much emphasis on the food crops and cash crops.Among the services include the banks such as stanbic and centenary, schools and hospitals. The tourist attractions found in Hoima include Kataisha port which is commonly known to have been established by Colonel Colville as he was trying ti subdue omukama (king) kabalega.The mparo Tombs acknowledged as the burial places of two most influential Bunyoro Kings of modern times.
