Hotel guide 2020 – 2021

Hotel guide 2020 – 2021

The hospitality sector accounts for 90% of
all employees and this has made UHOA a force to reckon with in Uganda.
It also gives me great pleasure to note that of the
3,800 hotels in Uganda, 95% are privately owned of which 86% are Ugandan owned. It gives me great
honour to lead a sector that is driven by some of the most patriotic ladies and gentlemen in Uganda.

BIG-NAME BRANDS
During the course of the years, we have also seen the opening up of international big-name brand hotels in Uganda, most notably the Hilton Hotel, Onomo Hotels,
Hilton Garden Inn, Marriot Hotels, Latitude Hotels, all of which are members of UHOA. This comes with a lot of benefits for our country in terms of tax collection
as well as employment of the youth. Also, this is an
endorsement of the international business community and a sign of investor confidence that Uganda is
officially open for business.
As the voice of the hotel sector, we plan to continue
our lobby and advocacy mandate to ensure a conducive business environment for the hotels in Uganda. In addition to lobbying for a more friendly tax regime, we also hope to lobby for a more inclusive environment
for women to flourish at the workplace, especially in managerial positions. We would like to see many more women taking their seats in the boardrooms and we have already set the pace by recruiting a female CEO working under a female led board.

8 SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
UHOA will also continue to be at the forefront of lobbying for more skills development within the sector. We
want to encourage more talent development within the hotel sector. We want to equip young people with the skills and confidence to pursue their careers as they develop their God-given talents to serve the sector.

We hope to work with both the government as well as development partners to achieve this target.
I take the opportunity to thank all our members
who have been with us for the last 20 years for their commitment to UHOA in making it the association
we are all proud of. I thank the government for its
recognition, which has empowered our association to serve our members better. I thank the UHOA Board for offering strategic guidance as we work towards giving better service to our members and our country at large. Lastly, I also thank our team at the secretariat, led by our CEO, Jean Byamugisha for implementing
the board’s vision and running a secretariat that’s of service to our members.
I now welcome you all to visit UHOA through the eyes of our publication. Welcome world!
